Meet Tori

Local surf legend

Vittoria Farmer is a bit of a local surf legend. When she’s not traveling for surf, Tori works as a lifeguard and her knack for balancing hard work with lighthearted, cheeky fun is seriously impressive. We caught up with Tori for a sunrise surf at one of her favourite local spots in Sunshine.

What makes Noosa feel like home?

It’s all the little things that make Noosa feel like home. Commuting to the shops and work on my scooter, having a really tight knit surfing community, and, as crazy as it sounds, having all the visitors during peak season, all make Noosa feel like home.

What does community feel like to you?

To me community is those familiar faces. Everywhere you go you always bump into someone you know.

Did you always know you wanted to be a competitive surfer?

Not initially. I was a bit later to the surfing scene. Some of my friends started to gain momentum and success in competition when we were fifteen. That’s when I realized I wanted to join them.

How did your passion for surfing grow over time?

The school I went to had a morning social surf session once a week. I was pretty much the only girl doing it at the time. Being in an environment surrounded by boys made me want to be better than them. The social surf mornings started to become training mornings. It was so popular they had to do it over a few mornings a week.

What is a typical day in your life like?

Like everyone else in the world, this year has been different to most. I don’t really have a typical day. As long as I get a surf in, do some sort of training or movement, and work – I’m happy.

How do you find peace in your day to day life?

Going for a walk with my earphones in or finding a bank to surf by myself.

My older brother was the one who really influenced me. He was great at being that big brother who would stir me up and push me out of my comfort zone.

How do you celebrate success?

With my closest friends, paired with some good food and drink!

Go to coffee order:

Oat flat white.

Words you live by:

Thoughts become things.

What's next on the agenda for you?

I'll be spending the next few months in Noosa, working and surfing. Hoping for the resumption of travel next year.
